What
this section is
The scope of this
section is to offer
divulging material
regarding the open
and free resources
the digital revolution
is bringing to everybody.
I'ts addressed to
a non specialized
public and to those
who want to get to
know this topics or
deepen. There are
already too many articles
arround, written by
experts for people
who already know about
all this, even though
there are still many
people not informed. Yaop! works
to inform about the opportunities
we have today
through the open & free
projects and organizations.
Unfortunately
there is an overwhelming
disinformation
about the importance
of this fact and
its meaning for
the whole planet's
societies. What
you find here
(though the menus at left) is a brief and
introductory description
of some of
these projects,
with links, in
case you want
to go deeper.
Mainly, these
descriptions are
quoted text taken
from their respective
sites. Far from
being complete,
this reference
will grow in time. Feel free to e-mail
us if there's
a project you
think it should
be published in
this page. |

About
Wikipedia accurancy -
it has been demonstrated
that Wikipedia content
is very accurate.
It arrives to be
almost like the Encyclopedia
Britannica, in
the field of sciences,
for example. This
was demonstrated
by the journal Nautre,
by taking randomly
tens of science
entries and comparing
them with other
sources. This test
were done in 2005 but
lately, many journalists
and academics have
said they use it
regulary in they
work. This is very
interesting, specially
for those who tend
to think that volunteer
steered projects
are not good enough
to rely on.
educational
resource for faculty,
students, and self-learners
around the world -
there is a section below,
created to inform
you about where
to find free and
open educational
material like texts,
books, free services
to search for specific
topics on specialized
libraries, course
materials, etc.
-
people normally
tend to think
that the only
3D earth viewer
system they have
at their reach
is Google Earth.
Well, this famous
system is not
the only one -and
there's still
more : there is
an open source
alternative. We're
talking about
World Wind, coming
directly from
the NASA's laboratories.
But there is still
more : images
produced by World
wind are free
(free as in "freedom" and
as in "no
cost") because
they come from
The Landsat Global
Mosaic, Blue Marble,
and the USGS and
this means they
are in the Public
Domain (with the
exception of those
produced by 3rd-party
add-ons, if any)
