Nowadays we have a huge amount of software (office, illustration, fun, etc), books, articles, videos, music, images, etc, that could use for free, and still many people don't know about it. We call all this open & free resources and are the result of many projects effort (open & free projects), that represent by now a real cultural movement of openness and freedom, which is involving the whole planet.

Yaop! aims to inform about these resources, emphasizing what all this means for education (rather than for information) and for its future. To accomplish this goal, we publish information about the open projects there are arround the world, giving a short description of each one.

But Yaop! itself is an open & free project and as such, it offers freely an always growing high quality photographs collection, doing this way its own cultural contribution and pushing the aforementioned idea of openness and freedom.

YAOP MESSAGES

Changes inside Yaop! - [Feb. 2007] - Yaop will not write articles any more. We have always have wanted to write and publish articles and news from the start and we did, even if there weren't a huge production. But now we'd rather prefer to be focused mainly on publishing free high quality photographs (as always), other than information about the open resources(as always also), letting other things be part of future initiatives. Thanks for your support.

What our images are used for? - many people is downloading our images and, as said in our user's mails, we'd like to let you know in what fields or areas these images become part of their work or hobby. We'd also like to make clear that, if you also find useful our material and/or you're already using it and you want to tell us a bit about what you're doing, we don't have any kind of problem when it comes to publicize your organization name - yes, it doesn't matter if it is a commercial name. So, write us and tell us about your work or activity - it's good for you and for us!

Our images are used in these fields: Traditional Art [to get inspiration to draw or paint with watercolors], Digital Art [in 3D, to have good backgrounds to render on and in 2D techniques, as a resource of materials, surfaces, and also backgrounds], Educational [to publish brochures and/or local magazines - for school and/or associations], and in computers as backgrounds. Lets see what else can happen.

Yaop! has grown still more - [Dec-2006] it has been given a totally new structure to the site, becoming this way easier to navigate it. Moreover, it has more images and its galleries has been reordered.

Yaop! is finishing its first year of public activity - this project became public on 24-Dec-2006 and from then it haven't stopped growing and getting better. Analyzing its visitors activity data (logs), it can be deduced that the project gained people attention faster that its founder expected. Moreover, it has to be said that Yaop!'s photographs are downloaded to be used in so varied situations that you could get surprised. Thanks to everybody! Yaop! begins a new year very well. for example, you'll find soon panoramic images and, even right now, you will find different kind of object images.
